Combustion activity info, activity and activity book homework!!

Dear students,

What problems can combustion cause?

Combustion produces thermal, light and some sound energy, but it also produces other substances. These other substances can cause many problems.

  • Most fuels produce carbon dioxide during combustion. Carbon dioxide contributes to

    global warming.
  • Burning coal, petrol or diesel produces particles that pollute the air. Breathing these particles can cause respiratory illnesses.
  • Burning coal and diesel can produce a toxic gas called sulphur dioxide. When sulphur dioxide mixes with rain rainwater, it produces acid rain. This kind of rain can kill plants and damage buildings.

Please, read your notes and the information above. Then, copy and complete the sentences in your notebook:

a) combustion is a  _____________ reaction.

b) It produces thermal energy, so that it´s called _____________

c) One of the ways we use combustion is _______________

d) One of the negative aspects of combustion __________________
