The past continuous is used to express:
Interrupted actions; Specific time as interruption and parallel actions.
Some examples are:
- I was watching tv when the phone rang.
- Last night at 7 p.m., I was having dinner.
- While she was doing her homework her brother was playing football.
Affirmative: Subject + was/were + verb+ ing --> She was eating an apple last night.
Negative: Subject + was/ were not + verb + ing --> She wasn´t eating an orange last night.
Interrogative: Was/were + subject + verb + ing? --> What was she eating last night?
