Review of last English unit - Tenses in the past; countable and uncountable quantifiers, irregular verbs (win, rise, steal, speak, etc...)

 Dear students,

Please, check and review the following items:

  • Past simple:
When we want to talk about events that have finished we use the past simple.

Subject + V-ed / 2nd column (past simple) + complement + time expression in the past (yesterday, last week, etc...)

Examples: He visited my friends in Italy last summer.

He didn´t visit my friends in Italy last week.

Did he visit my friends in Italy last week?

  • Present Perfect:

To talk about an action that started in the past and it is still valid.

Subject + have / haspast participle (verb-ed or 3rd column) + complement + time expression (this week, this month, this year, etc...)

    Examples:

I have studied this week for my English test.

I haven´t studied for my English test this week yet.

He hasn´t studied for his English test this week yet.

Have you already studied for your English test this week ?

  • Past perfect:
When we want to talk about an action in the past that happened before another action action in the past.

Subject + hadpast participle (verb-ed or 3rd column) + complement + time expression (this week, this month, this year, etc...)

    Examples:

They had eaten brekfast before they came to school this morning.

They hadn´t played any sports before they came to school.

Had they played any sports before they came to school?

Countables (they can be counted) and uncontables (they can´t be counted):

    Pen                                                    Sugar

    Ball                                                    Water

    Car                                                     Education

He has a few balls in his house.

There aren´t a lot of cars in the street.
